According to recent data available with the law enforcement agencies, abuse of Cocaine has been steadily on the rise for the past decade. The cocaine that comes from Florida, Texas, LA, NY, and Chicago is converted to crack and distributed by street gangs. Cocaine trafficking has induced gang wars, street fights, prostitution, crime and thefts. Though the figures claim that heroin addiction has considerably reduced in the city, emergency cases in the hospitals keep reporting a number of medical problems related to heroin abuse.

The abuse of Methamphetamine has increased in the past 2 decades. A ban has been imposed on the precursor chemicals used in the production of Methamphetamine. Despite this, law enforcement agencies keep encountering clandestine laboratories all over the state. Marijuana is the second most commonly abused drug among the teenagers of Minnesota. It is largely cultivated and hence it has become increasingly difficult to detect the growers. Pharmaceutical drugs are also being highly abused in the city. Can We Stop Our Youth From the Perils of Drug Abuse?

Drug Abuse Warning Network, which is a Public Health Surveillance System, indicates that Emergency Department episodes in drug-abuse have more than doubled in recent years according to surveys taken from 21 Metropolitan Cities in U.S. However, amongst youth ages 12 to 17, drug-related episodes have alarmingly quadrupled! Who is to blame? Is your child’s destiny a product of chance or a culmination of parental care?

Although some of us may not hear or witness the alarming increase in the intake of drugs, the dangerous and drastic effects are self-evident. Intense suffering and agonizing deaths, suicides, murders and thefts, which are on the increase in public places like the Malls or School Campuses, primarily stem from habitual drug addiction. Habitual drug-takers’ first and last thought is: how to get the next dose. The drug-taker lives in constant dread of suffering should he or she fail to secure it. This haunting dread drives the drug-taker to use any means no matter how sinister or violent - to attain this goal.

Methadone Detox Should Be Used to Get Former Heroin Addicts Drug Free

I read an article today that happened to mention that one of the people involved in the situation being written about was a methadone counselor. I was curious to find out exactly what they meant, so I checked it out. Methadone is sometimes used in treatment programs for heroin addicts. Unfortunately, methadone is also an opiate, and is also addictive, and many people who take methadone to kick heroin wind up addicted to methadone instead. They then have to go through and methadone detox and sometimes rehab to handle their new addiction.

So what does a methadone counselor do? According to the Methadone Assisted Recovery Guidelines for Saskatchewan, methadone counselors do everything from screening an individual to see if methadone treatment is right for them, to dealing with the issues that would make someone addiction prone.

The outcome of methadone counseling is supposed to be one of three possibilities: the addict stays on methadone long-term, the addict goes through a medically-supervised withdrawal from methadone, or the addict is given a “methadone harm reduction” program.

The addict is expected to be on methadone and receiving methadone counseling for two or more years, after which time the counselor makes his recommendations.

Okay. So that’s how it works. During the two or more years the person is taking methadone, the counselor is working with them to resolve their addiction issues. If the counselor concludes that the issues are resolved, I would assume he would recommend withdrawal from methadone so the addict can become drug free.
